🙌 The Power Of Impressions 🙌

Posted by Eddie . on

Something that continues to surprise me is how many people keep asking me for diet advice. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I do believe I have a body that many strive for. But having said that, I’d my knowledge on exercise science and diet is just as good as anyone else who trains in the gym or reads a few health blogs.

For those who don’t know, my primary education is in business and I work full time in corporate as an accountant. I am a qualified personal trainer, having completed my qualifications on the side. I also have experience in training clients but these have all simply been as hobbies and to kill boredom.

Given this, why do people still ask me for advice? It’s because I LOOK like I know what I am doing. I certainly can advise you on debits and credits or common control gaps you would see in any organisation’s accounts payable function, but I am not a qualified dietitian and I don’t want anyone to think that I am. Whilst I am a qualified personal trainer, diet advice is out of my scope of practice and rightly so. The advice I share is simply what I personally have learnt on my own fitness journey, nothing more, nothing less.

What this shows is that humans still rely heavily on their primal instincts and judge based on what they see. That’s something I definitely do myself but am trying to be more aware of it and change. More importantly however, this illustrates the importance of impressions. Whether you like it or not, how you articulate yourself, how erect your posture is or how you dress DOES MATTER.

Furthermore, impressions stick. I am always amazed by how attentively people heed my advice even though I tell them directly I don’t know much. It’s because they are so fascinated by my physique that they habitually keep asking me for advice.

Don’t get me wrong, this post isn’t to dissuade people from following me. Truth be told, I am grateful to have followers and that my content can add value to them, but the primary motivation behind my content is to express myself. This is all the reward I need.
